It's coming along nicely!
I love the background! You need to make it larger though because of larger screen resolutions.
Get rid of the unneeded text like << home>>, etc.
Add simple gradients, and try a black color for your windows.
Later on you can design some folders.

the banner needs to be smaller. I love the 3d style look, it gives a nice effect and also like the fixed BG. Maybe add some new gradients as they look to original.
